Making Money Writing Online - E-Ink Display and LCD in One Ebook Reader - Perfect Combination?
And popularity, sales, and especially not when that market already has an Amazon Kindle as the undisputed leader in technology, it's difficult to stand out and get noticed; as the ebook reader market gets more crowded, after all. Right, an ebook reader that boasts of both an LCD screen and e-ink display should be one interesting device?
Here are the devices that they've come up with so far, with added functionality in mind. Why not throw in internet browsing as well, and even if the handheld ebook reader is primarily used for reading on the go? Add an LCD screen there too, if the typical ebook reader uses e-ink technology. Come up with a device that's got more than what the current crop has to offer. Simple. So what's a company that's raring to get a share of the pie to do?
Spring Design Alex
And a one-of-a-kind Duet Navigator feature that allows the user to toggle content downloaded on the LCD to be viewed on the e-ink screen, microSD card slot, a 2.5mm headphone jack, its add-ons include Mini USB port. And highly-usable for web browsing activities or watching video files, running on Google's Android, on the bottom portion is a 3.5-inch LCD screen. The upper part of the device is made up of a 6-inch e-ink display that would be used mainly as the reading screen. Although it has formally made an appearance in this year's CES (January 2010), spring Design first introduced Alex to the public in October of 2009.
Entourage Edge
And supports Wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity, while the right side runs on the Android OS as well, the e-ink side automatically opens ePub and PDF files. And a 10.1-inch LCD screen on the right, the device sports a 9.7-inch e-ink display with 16 shades of gray on the left, this is because with its clamshell design. The Entourage Edge seems to put as much emphasis on its internet browsing functionality and other capabilities as it does on the ebook reading aspect, unlike the Alex that has opted for a smaller LCD display. The Entourage Edge is another twin-screen ebook reader to hit the market of late.
Trouble for Kindle?
I wouldn't go as far as saying that these hybrid-type readers equipped with both e-ink display and LCD are on their way to dominate the ebook reader market, but for now. These new e-readers do offer more than what you would have expected in the standard ebook reading device, true. The real question here now is whether the Kindle has finally met its match with these twin-screen ebook-reader-slash-tablet-PC devices.
